Artist Statement
My entire body of work and portfolio is composed of photographs that concern my past and dealing with death and loss. I'm drawn to the analog process and film photography due to my spiritual need to address a difficult subject such as grief, which is a lifelong healing process. Much like grief analog and film photography requires patience, an eye for the beauty in life, and time.
Through my series of photographs “the dichotomy between age thirteen” I explore the shared experience I had with my sister growing up. The poetry she wrote as a child paired with the images I captured express both me and my sisters' shared experience of growing up and experiencing loss as children. Through a series of serene film photographs of my nieces as well as written excerpts from my sister, I attempt to address our entwined history and how we now, grown up, see the beauty in our experiences and grief.
