Artist statement:

When I was born there were only three people besides the nurses allowed in the delivery room: my mother (of course),my father, and my grandmother. They all were amazed how peaceful and quiet I was despite just being born. Because of this my Irish grandmother aptly named me Shannon. She named me Shannon after a particularly serene and calm river located in her home country Ireland.

 As I've aged I've found myself connecting to bodies of water and ive felt called to ireland. I am constantly flowing and changing, much like the river I am named after, and this series is a reflection of that. In my series I am using Irish linen because this self portrait series is about being called back to my own historical roots, as well as Ireland's history. My series consists of self portraits and landscape images of myself and bodies of water to showcase that my values are always rooted in family and returning home to the water.
